The coloured mosaic behind the ornate altar is impressive. (I read that the scene represents the reception of the departed soul into heaven).

Although the church is very famous it is not so popular destination in Vienna. However, I can only recommend to visit it!

The glass windows at the sides are designed by Koloman Moser and portray seven saints (named underneath each frame).

When I first entered into the church I felt secure and calm. There was nothing that reminded me of any other church I know. The main hall is white with gold elements and there is a lot of light coming inside. There are very few sharp edges, and most corners are rounded; almost no crosses are visible. For me this is how a tempel should make you feel.

Church of St. Leopold, also known as Otto Wagner church is a Roman Catholic oratory of the Steinhof Hospital in Vienna. The building is designed by Otto Wagner and is considered one of the most important Art Nouveau churches in the world. It was build between 1903 and 1907 with mosaics and stained glass by Koloman Moser and sculptural angels by Othmar Schimkowitz. The great majority of the other smaller details are the work of Otto Wagner himself.

Inspired from my research on the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil), I want to see one of the most interesting works of the architect Otto Wagner - the Otto Wagner Church in Vienna.
